In this article, the team at Tolmer Group will be taking a quick look at link juice. We will be breaking down what it is, why it matters and how you can start getting some for your website!

What Is Link Juice?

Link juice is a term used to describe SEO value, and is an important part of the process which takes place in a backlink. If you would like to brush up on your backlink knowledge you can click here to see our detailed breakdown. Essentially, a backlink is where another website attaches a link that directs to your website. When a website does this, some of it’s link juice moves from that website to your website. This link juice is the SEO value of the website that is linking to yours. The better the website, the better quality the link juice is.

Why Is Link Juice Important

Link juice is probably the most important part of your SEO strategy, whether you know it or not. This is usually the difference between your site appearing in the top 3 search results or appearing on page 10! The reason link juice is so important is because it is how Google bots determine if your site is relevant or useful. If your website has no link juice or backlinks from other sites, Google bots will think it is less relevant than a site with lots of link juice and 200 backlinks. Crucially, it is almost irrelevant if your information is better or reliable!
As you can see, link juice is incredibly important to your marketing strategy. In some cases it really doesn’t matter how good your content is if you are not focusing on getting link juice for your website. Now you know why it is so important, it is time to take a look at how you can get it!

How Do You Get Link Juice?

As we covered above, link juice is flowed to your website when another website links to it. That means to get link juice you will need to find a way to get another website to link to your site. There are a few ways that any type of business and website can go about this. Listing your business in local directories is one of the easiest ways to do this. By creating a free listing with your business details and website URL, you can create anywhere between 1 and 10 backlinks for each business directory! That is a fair bit of link juice for any type of website!
You could also try reaching out to other websites for guest blogging opportunities. For example, if you are a gardener looking to get link juice for your site, you could reach out to gardening tip websites and ask if they will publish one of your blogs. You can include a link at the bottom of your blog directing back to your website, which will become a backlink once they post it on their site. This will then create a link juice flow from that site to yours.
Another popular method is to find broken links on the web. These are usually links on sites like Wikipedia or blogs which are linking to a website which doesn’t exist anymore. You can replace this broken link with a link back to your website if you have the information they are looking for!
Here is a summary of methods you can use to get more link juice:

  • Create listings in local business directories
  • Guest blogging
  • Create infographics
  • Replace broken links
